As a Co-Founder and Managing Principal of Onyx Equities, LLC, John has overseen Onyx’s investment efforts and portfolio management since its inception. As Onyx’s chief investment strategist, John has directed an investment philosophy for Onyx which has lead to the successful investment of Phalanx Fund I and II. Phalanx Funds I and II are on a trajectory to generate fund level IRR’s well in excess of 30% during a time when many of Phalanx’s peers have struggled to generate a positive return. Throughout John’s 25 year investment career, he has bought and sold more than $3 billion dollars of commercial real estate throughout the Metro NY area. As a co-investment operating company, John has also lead Onyx’s mission to identify and partner with some of the country’s most significant institutional investment firms.

Prior to founding Onyx Equities, John was a founding member and Chief Investment Officer of Ivy Equities. As the Chief Investment Officer of Ivy Equities, John was primarily responsible for all acquisition, disposition and finance for and on behalf of Ivy Equities. From Ivy’s inception in 1995 through 2004, he was responsible for the purchase of more than 4 million square feet of commercial properties valued in excess of $1 billion located throughout the tri-state region.

Some of the more significant transactions that John has arranged include: the Metro Park Prudential Campus, Woodbridge NJ; One Exchange Place, Jersey City, NJ; Meadows Office Complex, Rutherford, NJ; Rockaway Plaza, Rockaway, NJ, Jericho Plaza, Jericho, NY and many others.

John served as a member of Governor Corzine’s Real Estate Advisory Board from 2006-2007. John is a graduate of Fordham University and New York Law School. John also currently serves as the President of the Board of Trustees for the Ridgewood Public Library.
